War of Words Between Mets and Phillies Lead To Gambling on Braves
The Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets have become baseballs newest rivalry. It all began last spring when Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins predicted that Philadelphia would win the National League East.
He turned out to be right. Not because the Phillies outplayed the rest of the division, but because the Mets went through one of the worst collapses in the history of the game.
That prediction, coupled with the potential of both teams being strong once again this year, has players on both teams once again sparring with their comments in the papers.
The one thing that should be looked out for in this situation is something that could throw a wrench in the plans of both the Mets and the Phillies. The Atlanta Braves.
All Atlanta has done has been to dominate the NL East for almost a decade and a half, and while the Mets and Phillies got most of the press last year, the Braves were in the race for the division title for most of the season.
Now, Atlanta will have the advantage of flying under the radar. They still have John Smoltz, and a rejuvenated Tim Hudson. Their offense is as strong as either of the other two teams. This will lead to a smart gambling person not overlooking what the Braves are capable of.
The Eastern division will be decided between two rivals, it is just not known which two rivals that will be.
