Meadows tops rivals
WEST VIRGINIA -- As reported by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, once projected to fall far short of its own revenue estimates, is paying out hundreds of millions of dollars more than competing casinos in West Virginia.
"So far this year, slot machines at the Washington County casino paid out about $335.7 million more than at Wheeling Island casino and about $107 million more than at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board and the West Virginia Lottery Commission.
"The amount wagered at The Meadows is higher by similar margins, even though it has about 1,300 fewer slot machines than Mountaineer and 200 fewer than Wheeling.
"The Meadows plans to emphasize its better payouts in an advertising campaign, hoping to guard against the economic downturn buffeting the gambling industry in other states..."
